For years I have worked at the intersection of painting and photography. I use a layered process that allows me to use paint, pastel and collage beneath the image, which is printed on a transparent film. In this year’s entry, “Summer Storm in Soho”, I was caught in a sudden rainstorm in NYC, and ran to the Soho loft where I was staying. Turning on the lamp, I looked out the window to this lovely scene of the warm golden interior light reflected in the window. The origami birds looked set to fly out, and the rain was caught in layers on the window, the window screen, and the balcony. This inspired me to use my layered process to paint the raindrops receding through the window. The arts and crafts frame is another story. Found in the salvage yard of Urban Ore, I saw that it fit the Soho image I had in the studio. They seemed a great fit.
